Let's Talk About Happy

One of the most recommended steps in order to improve your mood is: Be Nice To Someone Else.

What does that mean? Based on extensive personal research, I feel comfortable saying that it is very self-specific. I do not find it personally rewarding to open doors for people, or picking up trash they drop. I do feel gratified when I compliment people and they say thank you, or when I give a person something I observed that they need.

My personal favorite is text campaigns. Today, I texted a friend of mine I haven't spoken to in a while. She works hard every day, does her best to keep her family together even after divorcing her husband of 20 years. She's the kind of person that means a lot, even if talking isn't something we do every day. And today, I sent her a message to say so. She wrote back that she appreciated the kind words, that she'd needed to hear something like that.

That made my day today, because I know I made someone else's day. Whose day did you make today?
