Virunga

It's my favorite charity. I have my reasons, which I'm happy to share. But this isn't about my charities.

Tonight I'm thinking about a part of the world I miss. I worry for the people I've come to love corresponding with, for the very creatures I surrender my birthday every year.

People with guns and reasons I don't know have overrun the Virunga National Park to such an extent, the park has been closed this month.

Ex-pats and others from the regions who run the Karisoke research facility as well as local school, etc, have been evacuated from posts considered unsafe. Everyone is trying to keep tabs on each other, in case other communcations break down and people get lost in the logistics of evacuating.

Part of what I try to do for the causes I admire is share information. All I want to do right now is share what I know, and that I'm worried for my friends and animals I love.

More information, if you would like, is available here.
