It Isn't About That....

Chik-fil-a.

I am not about to get political. I am not about to enter a religious discussion.

IT IS ABOUT THE ACTIONS CHOSEN, and nothing more.

Several months ago, my husband and I chose to stop eating at Chik-fil-a. We are continuing this choice. My husband made the decision for himself because he's an adult and he does what he wants.

I stopped eating at Chik-fil-a because of the word "exclusion."

Yes, it's that simple. The word "exclusion" is obviously derived from the phrase "to exclude." To leave something, or in this case some one, out. I take issue with and offense to this word.

If you want to "support traditional values," I do not care. Support whatever you want. Prefer anything you please. Actively choose to engage in those things you find positive and enriching in your life. Go nuts! I support it!

I stopped going to Chik-fil-a because people were asked to leave. The people asked to leave were law-abiding, tax-paying citizens in violation of no statute whatsoever. They were refused service because they were holding hands.

If you are a corporate spokesman who voices a personal opinion, I do not care. You are allowed to have any opinion you want. Seriously, you are not so important that I stalk you. You will in no way alter my life, other than the information I have about you. In much the same way, if I hear you say, "I hate mashed potatoes," I will have another option for you when you come over to eat at my home.

When you exclude people, you refuse to allow their points of view, thoughts and concerns into your world. You are devaluing everything they can offer you. You are also exposing your fears. And, to quote Bill Murray in Ghostbusters, sometimes, "You don't want us exposing ourselves!"

If you want to make it a positive situation, I like it. I support it completely. Make it negative, make it vindictive? Yes, then, you have lost my support.

May I also point out that there are actually laws that prohibit the exclusion of people based on such things as religion, race, creed or sexual preference?
